Horschel Wins First PGA Tournament!

horschel-pgaHe’s been one of the best on the PGA Tour; but he’s also a player that had never won a tournament. That all changed this weekend though, when Billy Horschel arrived in New Orleans to play in the Zurich Classic. He knew it was his time to win, and that he did. And, he did it with just one putt, too.

The weather was miserable for most, with two different weather delays holding things up at TPC Louisiana. And while you would think that would make things harder for Horschel, it actually worked in his favor. Coming into the second round he was two shots behind the third round leader, Lucas Glover; but shooting six straight birdies gave him a slight edge over D.A. Points, the competitor that was the only one left fighting Horschel for the victory by the 18th hole.

At first it looked as though Points had it, knocking his ball out of a bunker to set himself up nicely for a 5-foot birdie. But Horschel stepped up to the task, and shot in an amazing 27-foot birdie. With a pump of his arms, and a brief burying of his face in his ball cap, Horschel had won his first tournament, with just one putt.

It was extremely fitting, really. Just last month Points had beaten Horschel and Henrik Stenson at the Shell Houston Open, also just by one putt.

“When a player goes out and shoots 8 under and birdies the last hole to win, hats off to Billy,” said Points, who finished the day with a 65. “He’s played great all year. He was one shot shy of me at Houston and I’m a shot shy of him here. It’s just the way it goes.”

Meanwhile, Horschel summed up his emotional win by saying, “Thank God I finally won.”

Megadeth, Iron Maiden Announce Heavy Rock Tour this Fall!

megadethIt all started with Rock in Rio which is to be held on September 22, but Iron Maiden isn’t prepared to let it stop there. On their way to that festival they’re going to be playing a string of concerts, and they’re bringing Megadeth along as the supporting act!

The tour only includes seven dates, but they all dot the route that Iron Maiden will be taking on the way to Rio. Starting in Raleigh, North Carolina, a city that Maiden has never played before, they’ll kick off the tour on September 9 at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion. From there they’ll travel to Nashville, Kansas City, St. Louis, Austin, and Las Vegas. Then just before Maiden heads down to Rio, they’ll team up with Megadeth one last time at the Battle of San Bernardino festival in California on September 13.

“As Maiden fans know, we’re going back to Brazil to headline Rock in Rio again, so we thought that on our way down south we should certainly stop off and do a few more shows in the U.S.,” said Maiden’s frontman, Bruce Dickinson. “We especially wanted to try and play some more cities we’ve not visited for a while, so we’re really excited about seeing our fans again in places we’ve not been to in over a decade, and in some cases even longer! We hope they will remember us!”

We don’t think that will be a problem, do you?

Deftones Bassist Dies at Age of 42

chi-cheng-deftonesIt was five years ago that Deftones former bassist, Chi Cheng, was in a car accident with his sister. While she was wearing a seatbelt and walked away with only minor injuries, Cheng wasn’t so lucky. Not being buckled in, he was thrown from the car and had spent the last five years trying to recover. Last week, on Sunday, April 14 his battle finally came to an end, after he passed away at the age of 42.

Cheng’s life was very full, co-founding the Deftones with Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, and the band’s frontman, Chino Moreno in 1988. The group spent the next two decades recording hit after hit, and were working on their latest collection of hits when Cheng was in the accident. The album was naturally put on hold, but after Cheng was in a coma for a year, and then a semi-conscious state for the remainder of his life, the band started playing with backup bassist Sergio Vega.

The news of Cheng’s passing was first announced on the website, oneforlovechi.com, a website that had been set up by fans to provide updates on Cheng’s status, show support, and collect donations for his care. It was his mother who posted to the site on Sunday saying,

“He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.”

The website has currently been shut down due to a large volume of traffic received since news of Cheng’s passing broke. The band has not yet officially commented on losing their former band member.

Bruno Mars Will Serenade Northeast in Late June

bruno-marsBruno Mars just made history on the Billboard Charts, as his latest hit took over the No. 1 spot on the Mainstream Top 40 radio airplay chart, which is based on Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. His new top hit, “When I Was Your Man,” is the first piano-and-vocal-only song to take over the number one spot on the Mainstream chart in its history.

It also gives Mars six No. 1 hits, which is the most in the 20-year history of the Mainstream chart, edging out Nelly and Justin Timberlake. Mars takes the top spot among top spot getters despite only being on the Mainstream Top 40 in the last three years. His other five No. 1’s are “Nothin’ On You,” “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade,” “It Will Rain,” and “Locked Out of Heaven.”

Hear those songs and more as Bruno Mars and Fitz and The Tantrums swing through the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the United States in late June and early July. Mars will hit Washington, D.C. on June 22nd, then swing up to Philadelphia, PA on June 24th. After that it’s another day off before appearing in Boston, MA on June 26th and in Uncasville, CT on June 27.

From there, Mars takes his show to the newest arena in the biggest city in the country, as he appears in New York City at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on June 29th. For those who live on the other side of Manhattan, Mars will be at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on July 1st.

Mars is likely positioned for his best year in musical awards since 2011, when he took multiple awards for “Just the Way You Are,” including the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Mars was also named the Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist that year by the American Music Awards.

With two of the top hits of 2013 just a few months into the year, Mars is poised for big things so don’t miss out on the chance to see him as he comes to a town near you this summer. Get your tickets right away before they sell out!

Motley Crue Takes up Vegas Residency Once Again at the Joint

motely-crueIt’s no secret that Motley Crue started turning Las Vegas into Rock Vegas when they took up their first residency their last year. Def Leppard was soon to follow, and we’re bound to see countless more come to rock Sin City. In the meantime though, Motley Crue is reprising their own residency in the city, and they’ll be bringing a “set list full of hits” with them this fall.

The band’s second Vegas residency takes them to The Joint, where they’ll perform twelve shows from September 18 — October 6 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Nikki Sixx started rumors that the band was coming back to play when he tweeted out a picture of a mattress lying on the ground in a parking lot of the Hard Rock.

“Trashing the Hard Rock in Vegas CRUE style…no one does it better than us #HardRockTrashed,” Sixx tweeted along with the picture. However, the photo was tweeted on April 1, leaving those who got the message wondering if it was actually an April Fools’ prank.

It’s definitely no joke though, as guitarist Mick Mars also made his own statement about the residency where he said that, at worst, it won’t “be a career killer” for the band.

If you’re going to be in Las Vegas the same as Motley Crue, tickets are already on sale for these Vegas shows so be sure to get yours today!

The Jonas Brothers are Back! Will they be Welcomed?

jonas-brothers-pompomsIt’s been three years since they’ve done anything together, but the Jonas Brothers are back from their hiatus, and they’ve brought a soon-to-be chart-topper along with them. The question is, will it be enough for fans?

First, the music. The new single from the Jonas Brothers is called “Pom Poms,” and is a high-energy song filled with tons of pop beats, lyrics that are easy to sing along to, and danceable rhythm. And along with the song, the boys have already shot a full-length video to accompany the single.

The video was not to be released until today, although the boys did release two very small clips while at On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Surely prior to when the boys wanted though, the entire thing was leaked online yesterday, and you can see it here. The video sheds a newer, more grown-up look to the band, with scantily dressed girls dancing in the bleachers and around the bleachers. And the boys too, not only look more mature, but sound it too.

The question now is, will the song be enough to bring back their fans back?

In a pop world that currently seems a little overloaded with boy bans such as One Direction, The Wanted, NKOTB and the return of 98 Degrees, the Jonas Brothers might not sail through their comeback; but Jonas Brother fans are a loyal bunch, and the song does have a lot going for it. This song will mostly do very well on the iTunes charts, if only due to interest surrounding the band’s hiatus.

This song will probably help the Brothers make a huge comeback; but it might be a case of waiting for the next release to see if it’s a long-lasting one.

“Romeo and Juliet” go to Broadway and get a New Spin

orlando-bloomIf you’re going to take Shakespeare’s iconic play, Romeo and Juliet, to Broadway, you better have great actors, and you better be able to put a new spin on it while keeping it true to its original storyline and charm. It seems that the version that’s about to hit the Broadway stage has all three.

David Leveaux will be producing the newest version of Romeo and Juliet, which will begin previews on August 24 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The charming and very talented Orlando Bloom, who’s best known for his work in “The Lord of the Rings” series, will make a very dashing Romeo; while Condola Rashad, Tony-nominated actress, will be a breathtaking Juliet.

What’s the difference that this version of the play brings? The love is unrequited due to racism and prejudices lying within the Montague and Capulet households.

During promotion of the film producers said, “In this new production, the members of the Montague household will be white, and the blood relatives of the Capulet family will be black. While race defines the family lineages, the original cause of the ‘ancient quarrel’ passed down by successive generations to their young, has been lost to time. Shakespeare’s dramatization of the original poem sets the two young lovers in a context of prejudice, authoritarian parents, and a never ending cycle of revenge. Against this background, the strength of their love changes the world.”
