“Glee’s” Jane Lynch to Step into Broadway’s “Annie” Role
|
You’ve come to know and love her as the tough, sarcastic cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester on “Glee;” and now you can watch Jane Lynch on Broadway’s “Annie!” Lynch will be taking on a role that seems to have been made for her (or at least Sue Sylvester) when she dons the nightgown and gin cup of Miss Hannigan – the cruel head of the orphanage from which little red-headed Annie hails.
The role needed to be filled when two-time Tony award winner, Katie Finneran, who filled the role in past productions, was recruited by Michael J. Fox for his new unnamed sitcom. Needing someone that can be bitter and cruel, yet also still able to draw sympathy and compassion from the audience, Jane Lynch seemed destined for the role.
This will be Lynch’s Broadway debut, and she’ll be there for eight weeks only. Starting on May 16, Lynch will join the “Annie” cast at the Palace Theatre until July 14.
“Some may say I know a thing or two about playing intimidating authority figures,” Lynch said when talking about the role. “So I am excited and honored to be making my Broadway debut and joining the pantheon of women who have taken on the great and irresistible role of wicked Miss Hannigan.”
