Maroon 5 Takes Southern Swing on Tour in Coming Days

adam-levineMaroon 5 front man Adam Levine might have turned 34 last week, but he’s not taking too much time off to celebrate as the band will play five shows in seven nights in five different southern cities in late March and early April.

Maroon 5 starts out in Birmingham, AL, on March 26th, and then hits Atlanta, GA, the next night. From there, it’s down to the Sunshine State as Maroon 5 visits Sunrise, FL, (near Ft. Lauderdale) on March 29th and Orlando, FL, on March 30th. Finally, they’ll play a show in Jacksonville, FL, on April 1st before heading north.

This comes on the heels of Maroon 5 seeing a third single from its most recent album hit the top of the charts. “Overexposed,” which dropped last June, has seen three songs hit number one on Billboard’s pop music charts. “Daylight,” joins “Payphone,” and “One More Night,” as chart-toppers.

According to Billboard, this makes Maroon 5 the first band to notch three number ones off the same album since Ace of Base in 1993 and 1994. Nobody else has achieved the same feat.

Other recent hits for Maroon 5 include 2011’s “Moves Like Jagger,” which featured Christina Aguilera and became one of the most played songs on the radio.

In all, Maroon 5 has six number one hits, which pulls the band even with Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey. The record is nine, held by Katy Perry and Rihanna.

While Levine is probably best known as the lead singer of Maroon 5, he has also gained a great deal of notoriety as a coach on “The Voice,” a singing talent show on NBC. Levine also recently appeared on Saturday Night Live, showing off his comedic skills and removing his shirt as well.

That showed why he’s been named one of the sexiest men alive by Glamour Magazine in 2012 and People magazine in 2008.

Don’t miss out on your chance to see one of the hottest bands and most notable performers as Maroon 5 rocks Alabama, Georgia and Florida in the coming days. Get your tickets right away!

Avril Teases Song from New Album, asks Fans for Help with Video

avril-lavigneAvril Lavigne is expected to release her fifth studio album any day now (some sources were claiming as soon as this month); and in that time, she knows how to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Recently she took to her Facebook page to preview a clip of the first single and, she’s asking for your help when it comes to making the video!

It was last week when Avril blasted out on her Facebook page, “So stoked to share a clip of my new single & a chance for you to be in the lyric video! ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’” What followed was 13 seconds of what can only be a bridge or a chorus, with a male voice singing “Here’s to never growing up,” with Avril’s signatures “Whoa-o, whoa-o” in the background.

It’s also through Avril’s Facebook page that fans can submit videos to be a part of the lyric video for the single once it’s released. The video can feature fans living life with a “never growing up” mindset, or lip-synching the words to the song. For full details on how to participate, you can find them on the Facebook page here.

A March release for the entire album is no longer looking like a possibility, but fans might hope for April. That’s the month when Avril will release the full version of “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” which was co-written by herself and her fiancé, Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. The song was produced by Martin Johnson, frontman for Boys Like Girls.

Who Will Win at the 2013 mtvU ‘Woodie Awards’?

macklemore-ryan-lewis-cred-john-keatleyThe Woodie Awards are a highly anticipated yearly show that hands out awards to the most popular songs and artists, as decided by college students. Along with artists taking home even more trophies during awards season, the Woodie Awards are also a chance to see many performances put on by those same artists. So, who’s going to be performing at this year’s show?

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were some of the first performers to be announced for this year’s Woodie Awards, which will be held on March 14 in Austin, Texas. The rapping duo is nominated for the “Branching Out Woodie,” and are likely to perform either of their two hits, “Thrift Shop” or “Wing$.”

Zedd will bring down the house, closing out the show with his huge current single, “Clarity.” Also just added to the set list for the show are Twenty One Pilots, who will also be performing during the ceremony.

In addition to those putting on the show are the ones holding it all together, and fans are excited to watch MGK and Tegan and Sara, the dynamite sister duo, all co-host the show together. Tegan and Sara are also up for an award, being nominated for Tag Team Woodie.

Tiger Wins WGC-Cadillac for 17th World Title

wgc-cadillacIt was this past weekend that we all got to watch what we love watching the most — Tiger Woods in his finest form, and making the game of golf look easy. This weekend, at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, Woods proved that free from both injury and scandal, he’s still the best golfer in the world. And for those who still doubt it, with 17 world titles won, and just one more to go, he’s about to tie Jack Nicklaus.

It’s something Nicklaus himself has been saying for some time is bound to happen, and it’s something we may be able to see next month at the Masters. If Tiger plays the same way we saw this past weekend at the Blue Monster course, it should be fairly smooth putting for him. In fact, over this weekend’s championship, it was putting that gave Tiger the most trouble. But, after heeding advice from Steve Stricker, he worked out those kinks and was the clear winner with three holes left to go.

If there was ever a time that he looked sloppy on the course in fact, it was only on those last three holes, which he ended up bogeying. But with the championship already won at that point, narrowing the margin for the win was a small price for watching Tiger play with such confidence, and maybe even having fun — something that’s been lacking for the past five years.

The Masters Golf Tournament 2013 begins in just about a month, on April 11, and it’s thought that this will be the tournament when Woods makes history, and catches up with the all-time golfing great, Jack Nicklaus.

Roundabout Theatre to Revive “Dinner with Friends”

dinner-with-friendsBeing set up on a date by friends is something that rings familiar to so many ears. But what happens when that setup turns into marriage, and then divorce? That’s just the question that Donald Margulies puts to the task in his play Dinner with Friends that will be a part of Broadway’s Roundabout season in 2013-14.

It is over dinner one evening that two married friends explain to the married couple that set them up in the first place that their marriage is crumbling. This has a drastic effect on the two friends still happily married, and it brings about a conversation entailing heartache, love, passion, and of course the inevitable question of what will happen to their tightly-knit friendship now that two of them are breaking apart. No casting has been announced as of yet, nor have the theaters that will play host to this play next year. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t already have some pretty big names behind it.

Those are Pam MacKinnon, who’s directing the play and has been nominated for a Tony for Claybourne Park; and of course the Pulitzer Prize winning writing of Donald Margulies. The play is touted as being “wryly funny” and “richly layered,” and will certainly have audience members thinking about the many different paths in life, those taken and those less traveled — and the journeys each has to bring.

Without a venue or a cast, tickets won’t be on sale for this one for a while. Just like all Roundabout plays however, subscribers will be the ones to have first grabs at them when they go on sale!

New Daft Punk Album on the Horizon

daft-punkEarly last year American songwriter Paul Williams set rumors flying after suggesting there’d be a new Daft Punk album released. In fact at that time he said that it would be available in June of 2012. That time came and went and now we’re well into the New Year, still with no new Daft Punk. But, fans shouldn’t lose hope altogether. Disco artists and Daft Punk collaborator, Nile Rodgers, has now all but come right out and said that it would be in our hot little hands by the end of April this year.

Various news outlets have been reporting that we can expect new Punk this spring, but already being disappointed once and not wanting to get their hopes up, fans were hesitant to get excited about it. But Rodgers took to his blog earlier this month to give fans a small light at the end of the long tunnel.

“The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums,” is what Rodgers wrote on his blog. He’s set to land in Tokyo on April 24, so it seems as though fans will have their album before then. Or at least hear some new tracks from it.

But if they’re being tight-lipped about the release date, the band is being even more so when it comes to spilling news about what the album will entail. All we really know right now is that they’ve switched to Columbia Records from Virgin for this record, and Nile Rodgers will indeed be collaborating on it. For now, that’s all we get until April. Hopefully.

High Octane Offense on Display When Knicks Host Thunder

kevin-durant-carmello-anthonyThe New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder are two of the hottest tickets in the NBA, so when they square off under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden Thursday night at 8:00 p.m., all eyes will be on the Big Apple.

The battle for the league scoring title will certainly be talked about, as Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant are tied atop the NBA with 28.6 points per game. While those numbers could change between now and Thursday, they’re still sure to be battling it out for the scoring crown.

The Knicks have been shaky of late, dropping six of their last 10, but still remain among the best of the NBA with a 35-21 record. A win over the Thunder would send a message that they’re not to be taken lightly as the playoffs near. New York faces the added challenge of being on the road Monday and Wednesday against the Cavaliers and Pistons.

The Thunder have won six of their last 10 and remain just three games back of the Spurs for the best record in the Western Conference, sitting at 43-16. For all of the talk the Heat have gotten this season, the Thunder matches the Heat with 43 wins, but Miami’s two ahead in the loss column. The Thunder meet the Lakers Tuesday night, then head up to New York.

Expect lots of points to be scored, as the Knicks and Thunder are two of the top scoring teams in the league. Oklahoma City averages 106.7 points per game, second best in the NBA. New York checks in at 100.1 points per game, 10th in the league.

While there will be plenty of talk about Anthony and Durant, both teams have great supporting casts. Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook is undoubtedly the third most dangerous player who will take the floor, scoring 23.4 points per game and dishing out 7.9 assists per contest.

The Knicks might have more depth, though, with five players averaging double figures: Anthony, J.R. Smith, Raymond Felton, Amar’e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler.

Don’t miss out on what could be one of the most exciting, high scoring games of the year. Get your tickets now.

“Glee’s” Jane Lynch to Step into Broadway’s “Annie” Role

annie-broadwayYou’ve come to know and love her as the tough, sarcastic cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester on “Glee;” and now you can watch Jane Lynch on Broadway’s “Annie!” Lynch will be taking on a role that seems to have been made for her (or at least Sue Sylvester) when she dons the nightgown and gin cup of Miss Hannigan – the cruel head of the orphanage from which little red-headed Annie hails.

The role needed to be filled when two-time Tony award winner, Katie Finneran, who filled the role in past productions, was recruited by Michael J. Fox for his new unnamed sitcom. Needing someone that can be bitter and cruel, yet also still able to draw sympathy and compassion from the audience, Jane Lynch seemed destined for the role.

This will be Lynch’s Broadway debut, and she’ll be there for eight weeks only. Starting on May 16, Lynch will join the “Annie” cast at the Palace Theatre until July 14.

“Some may say I know a thing or two about playing intimidating authority figures,” Lynch said when talking about the role. “So I am excited and honored to be making my Broadway debut and joining the pantheon of women who have taken on the great and irresistible role of wicked Miss Hannigan.”
